This Is What Happens When You Shop Locally

When you keep shopping at small businesses, there is a lot more behind the scenes that you may not know.

Have you ever supported your town or city’s small businesses? Chances are, during the pandemic, you’ve visited the local coffee shop or small grocery store to pick up a few items when it was most convenient. When you keep shopping at small businesses, there is a lot more behind the scenes that you may not know.

Keep The Neighborhood Unique

How many chain stores do you know? Or big box stores? Probably more than you can count on your fingers. How many local stores do you know? It might not be many, but small businesses are what makes your community unique.

There might only be one shop in town that sells homemade candles. There could be a local shop that makes snow globes right in the back of their building. When you shop locally, you take advantage of their craftsmanship and expertise that goes into every product you see on their shelves. This is important to remember. Wouldn’t you rather support these thoughtful companies compared to the chain store that sells the same product in all 50 states?

Better Customer Service

Small business owners are very personable. They remember your name, the last time you visited the shop, and probably what you are going to buy next. That isn’t the customer service you get at the closest chain store.

Small shops are what you make feel good at the end of the day. When you buy a product from them, you can see how much they appreciate your business. That is what hard-earned money looks like to them. And they will give you appreciation and the best customer service in return for your business.

You’re Saving Money

Since local shops don’t outsource as much as big companies, they save on transportation costs among other things. Walking up to your local store to buy an item might be cheaper than driving to your bix box alternative to make a purchase. When you save money, your community is also saving money. Shopping at small businesses adds to the local economy, keeping your money local, as well. At the end of the day, that local purchase you made benefits both the store owner and the community.
